Elizabeth has a pool day

Elizabeth lifts up her sleep mask, her piercing eyes with winged liner already painted on take in the room. She starts her day by getting out of bed.

Narrator

After waking up in the H of the Hollywood sign, Elizabeth decides to have a pool day. She puts on the weight of fame, her spf 50 and her favorite swim cover up.

Elizabeth smiles back at herself in her Vanity, sprays her no-heat roller set hair with an oversized hairspray can and styles her overnight curls into her go to updo. She powders her face with a puff and strips off her vintage light blue nightgown to reveal she already has on a black swimsuit with white polka dots underneath. She puts on her cat eye glasses to complete the ensemble and makes her way to her pool. She throws down a towel and trades her head scarf for a chin strapped swim cap.

Narrator

Elizabeth usually doesn’t allow herself to indulge in such things as rest and relaxation. She smokes a cigarette, dips her toes in the pool and skims through a magazine.

Elizabeth masculinely smokes a cig, dips just her big toe into the pool and reads her “Manson, his family, their crimes and the end of the 1960s” LIFE magazine issue.

Narrator

Boredom and hunger strike.

Elizabeth puts down her LIFE magazine and dissects a pomegranate with her hands.

Narrator

Elizabeth eats half a pomegranate before deciding she’s far too full to even think of finishing. She wipes her mouth clean and chugs a glass of water.

Elizabeth smears her face and gulps a glass of water down, gasping for breath by the time she’s done.

 Narrator

Then, seemingly out of nowhere. Dread. A sense of neurosis takes Elizabeth. Isn’t there something else she could be doing?

Elizabeth, overwhelmed by herself, lays down on her side, resting her cheek on the grass next to her backyard kiddie pool and stares directly past the audience.

Narrator

It’s all really too much for Elizabeth to think about. She decides she’ll have to try again tomorrow.
